Morning sets the tone of the whole day..
Meditation, they say is indeed more fruitful if done in the morning.. though it is as beneficial as an exercise no matter when you do it; especially for a person like me who can never surface early in the morning..wink!!
And No you dont have to be a monk or do it for hours..
Yes, Formal seated meditation can be daunting for beginners, but experts agree that even taking a few moments to breathe and focus your thoughts can be useful. 
Even a mere 5 mins of deep breathing exercise will work wonders in leaving you rejuvenated!
Quiet and peaceful surroundings can make the meditation experience for a beginner more enjoyable and relaxing.
Breathe in…relax, Breathe out.. double relax!!

On a lighter note..
A glass of wine ? will also give you the same results! ?
