When i extracted my son out of me (yes extracted ;as it was a c sec delivery ?) wink. I weighed around 78 kgs as i had a pretty excruciating pregnancy and i was on a modified bedrest for 5 months; my husband used to call me a PREGASAURUS (imagine!?!?).
I’ll never forget the first time I tried to stand up after my first c-section. After three days of lying around in bed with painkillers to keep me from feeling the spasm in my abdomen, I was ready. After the nurse’s pep up talk I took my husband’s arm, rolled to my side, and gently lowered my legs to the ground. First the right leg. Ah, what a wonderful sensation to feel the floor again. I sat up and lowered my left foot to the ground, slowly shifting my weight down into my feet. I got both feet on the ground, pushed myself up into a standing position, and promptly collapsed into my husband’s arms.
I quickly realized that I couldn’t even hold my own weight and I panicked. I felt like the midsection of my body was missing. Where were my ab muscles but i took it all in my stride and chose to enjoy and live all those little happy moments with my lil bub that i really yearned for rather than worrying about my ab muscles, body strength and weight gain!
Believe you me, i had this box full of my prepregnancy clothes which i not so happily but in all hopes labelled “SOMEDAY BOX”
Going under the knife to deliver your bundle of joy is not a piece of cake at all as it does take a lot of toll on our bodies.
Mothers who have had a C-section to deliver their babies, generally, have more difficulty losing weight and getting back in shape. C-section is a major operation that involves cutting through abdominal muscles, blood loss and a much longer recovery period. Not only do the abdominals need to recover from being stretched out, the incision and stitches also require time to heal.
Weight loss issues can indeed be a depressing catalysts!
It took me nine months to become a Pregasaurus but a whole year to get back to my before-my-bratie weight!
Yes, breastmilk feeding did work but
I also worked hard to lick my body back in shape albeit with a lot of patience in my bag other than those good running shoes and my yoga mat!
Yes, i did start with simple yoga asanas (will share it on my website soon)
I was never in a hurry to lose weight and had a good post-pregnancy diet. I have never even followed a strict Diet because I am not at all a disciplinarian.
But i used to try eating healthy without cutting the corners with a 1 hour workout for 5 days a week which i started only after completing 6 months of rest post delivery.
And Blimey! I was there; opening my “SOMEDAY BOX” to get back into those skinny jeans, bodycon dresses and all that jazz in a years time!
Second pregnancy was again an ultimate experience albeit this time i enjoyed it to the hilt as my doctor had hardly put me on a bedrest..
And getting back in shape was way more easier than the last time; could be because my body got used to the way it was before and all the fitness hardwork that i did post my first pregnancy paid off this time but i did start my workout regime immediately after 6 months of post csection rest.
With so many high-profile celebrity moms snapping back from pregnancy with a model-perfect hour glassy curvaceous figure in almost no time, it sometimes seems as if they’re jumping right from the labor bed to the treadmill.
But is it realistic — or for that matter even healthy — to slim down after pregnancy with such lightening speed?!?!?
Experts offer a resounding “No!”
“We don’t have the kind of lifestyle that would allow for that kind of quick loss and the sooner women recognize that, the better they will feel about themselves, ” says Laura Riley, MD, a high-risk-pregnancy expert.
I guess celebraties have all the resources and help around them that we just cant afford also!
In my two cents’ worth
The best way to lose weight is to
1. Cut empty calories
Foods with empty calories have a lot of solid fats and sugars but not many nutrients that are good for you. Start by cutting out cake, cookies, and other sweets; soda and alcohol; and fast food like pizza and hot dogs.
2.Breastfeeding your baby
3. Start your workout regime with walking as to start the rest your body will tell your on its own when its ready.
4. Be patient with the whole process and give your body the required healing time.
5. Be positive
6. Drink plenty of water and feel it happening as the work-in-progress mode has begun! ?
